Facebook change name to META✌

Facebook rose to prominence in the past two decades with some of the most recognizable brands in the world: a large blue and white letter F.

No more. On Thursday, the social media giant took an unmistakable step toward a review, downplaying the Facebook name and renaming itself Meta. The change was accompanied by a new corporate logo designed as an infinity-shaped symbol that was slightly lopsided. Facebook and its other applications, such as Instagram and WhatsApp, will remain but under the Meta umbrella.

The move highlights how CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to refocus his Silicon Valley company on what he sees as the next digital frontier, which is unifying disparate digital worlds into something called a metaverse. At the same time, renaming Facebook can help distance the company from the social media controversies it faces, including how it is used to spread hate speech and misinformation.

"I've been thinking a lot about our identity" with this new chapter, Zuckerberg said, speaking at a virtual event Thursday to showcase Facebook's tech stakes in the future. "Over time, I hope that we will be seen as a metaverse company."
